Have you ever wondered what day to day life is like here in rural France? Now is your chance. Of course you have always been able to stay for as long as you want but with our new rates for longer stays between October and May there are no excuses.
So what's it like? Sadly we can't control the weather, we've tried everything, but we can give you a general idea of what you can expect. Autumn is one of our favourite seasons, with the changing colours, crisp mornings and afternoon temperatures often still in the 20's. We normally wait until November before we need to light the log burners and have been known to roam the village trick or treating in T Shirts. The clear skies often leave crisp morning frosts and mist hanging in the valleys leading to afternoon temperatures into the teens as we head into December. Many of the local vineyards open their doors to show off early Roses and Reds towards the end of November, often accompanied with roasted chestnuts around the fire.
The local markets continue throughout the winter and there are some wonderful Christmas markets in the local villages and further afield in Toulouse and Bordeaux. Of course for those lucky enough to be here at Christmas, we have plenty of decorations for everybody.
January can often bring snow, there is nothing better than a long walk through the orchards after snowfall, and then snuggling up in front of the fire.
It's the best time of the year (If you bring your gloves) for admiring the nights sky. Many of its greatest wonders like the Orion nebular can only be seen through the telescope during the winter months.
During March and April with the days growing longer and temperatures rising, the gardens spring back into life, migrating birds can often be seen flying overhead and preparations for another Summer season here at Labarde are normally well underway.
